Pilot is a multi-platform organisation. We work with diverse teams to make a wide range of work for a diverse range of audiences. By working with artists of the highest calibre across all our platforms it enables us to make new 'pilot' projects - original commissions, theatre tours, conferences, workshops, digital delivery and participatory projects.

We are based at York Theatre Royal, and have been since 2002. We are one of very few national touring mid-scale companies to be based outside London and are therefore able to offer unique training & work opportunities for artists and young people in mid-scale touring that they may be unable to get anywhere else in the region.

Working with excellent established artists we nurture emergent talent and develop our next practice with leading practitioners and diverse teams across all our platforms of delivery. The audiences and communities we aim to reach will be reflected by our diverse teams who make and deliver that work.

We have delivered a wide range of work over the last few years, including the six Camera Livestream of the York Mystery Plays for The Space, the acclaimed 'Blood + Chocolate' and 'In Fog and Falling Snow', as well as the award winning tour of 'Looking for JJ' and more recently new adaptations by Roy Williams of 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner' and 'Antigone'. In September we begin our next touring production of 'Outsiders', a play written by Emteaz Hussain that is inspired by Albert Camus' novel 'L'etranger'.

Our feature film 'The Knife That Killed Me' was co-produced with GreenScreen Productions and is now available on DVD and On-Demand.

We have run our Shift Happens Programme of TED style talks since 2008 and we are TEDx licence holders and we ran TEDxYork in 2011. In February 2014 we ran the No Boundaries symposium, which considered the premise that the cultural map was being re-drawn by new behaviours, new technologies, new models of funding and new local, national and global thinking. No Boundaries 2015 is scheduled for Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th September.

Our planned programme of work will focus on creating 'new work from diverse voices' where new and reimagined texts hold meaning and relevance especially to our target audience of young people.

This new work will focus on five strands - Touring Theatre, Participation, Learning, International Outreach Online

Our website includes information about our current and previous projects, including videos, podcasts, educational resource material, photographs and reviews.
